Under direct supervision from the Writing Center Coordinator, the incumbent will provide advice and resources at every stage of the writing process: Assist students formatting papers, properly citing their papers in MLA, APA, Chicago, or any other citation the instructor requires; Assist students to brainstorm ideas to enable them to begin assignments; Discuss how to formulate clear thesis statements; Clarify lesson instructions; Teach while proofreading; Clarify what plagiarism is and make sure students know how to cite in-text; Learn what the professors require, so students can comply with each particular criteria for a well-composed paper; Work closely with ADA students to enable their success; Be familiar with and have extensive experience in helping with the research process as it applies to college writing.MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS): Completion of sophomore year of university or an Associate's degree in English or a closely related field, with directly related instructional/tutorial experience required. PREFERRED: Bachelor?s Degree in English or a closely related field, with directly related instructional/tutorial experience.

The incumbent will:
Tutor students according to their educational needs.
Follow procedures and processes for tutoring; monitor the delivery of the tutorial services, and set up a tutoring schedule each semester.
Provide feedback, as appropriate, to faculty regarding student performance and progress.
Coordinate and communicate with faculty and students to improve the tutoring experience.
Assess and refer at-risk students to other programs as appropriate.
Receive and answer questions from users, in an open computer lab environment, who may be experiencing problems with computer software and/or hardware. Seek assistance from IT when needed.
Assist students with various software including, but not limited to the Microsoft Office suite, Ellucian suite, D2L, and other operating systems.
Review the student sign-in, in order to create a database to track the names of students who are requesting services and the amount of time the student spent in the Writing Center.
Prepare informational material and promote the Writing Center, including visiting classrooms and openly communicating with faculty.
Review necessary software updates, remove old files/folders, and update virus scanners.
Maintain the overall cleanliness of computers, screens, keyboards, and mice in addition to general housekeeping in the lab area.
Enforce campus policies as listed in the Student Handbook.
Monitor students? printing to ensure campus resources are not being abused or wasted.
Report problems and seek assistance from IT staff in the event of irresolvable problems with the software or hardware.
Maintain and update knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
Complete and submit staff-related forms (timesheets, risk management forms, professional development forms, materials/supplies tracking forms, and other required staff-related documents) in accordance with directed timeline requirements.
Maintain a thorough working knowledge of and adherence to program policies, procedures, and regulations; keep immediate supervisor well-informed of activities, results of efforts, identified/potential problems, etc.; recommends corrective actions to immediate supervisor.
Respects confidentiality in discussing clients, staff, volunteers, and corporate matters; also maintain confidentiality of corporate/project fiscal and personnel related information.
Participate in staff and professional developmental activities.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
